Sabang and Weh Island - Like the 70s of Langkawi

Sabang and Weh Island - Like the 70s of Langkawi
February 19, 2014|Adiek Sarah

Weh Island has not yet fully commercialized as a tourism destination, but it has it's own attractions. It used to be an important shipping destination for cinnamon import industries long time ago. Apart from that, it was a perfect place to travel as a diving destination.

My diving experience in Weh was mentioned in a separate entry. Other than diving, tourist also may enjoy sight seeing with pleasant weather and friendly people of Weh. With a help from our boatman, we managed to rent 4 motorcycles (for 4 couples/pairs)for Rp100.000 per day.

Below are some places to be visited. Thanks to one of our dive guide, Naza for being our tour guide as well.

Null Kilometer of Indonesia

Pulau Weh is a small island off the northern tip of Sumatra and the main town was called Sabang.

If you look at the Indonesia map, the 0 kilometers was actually started at Weh! You can rent a motorbike or bicycle and go up until the end of the island. There was a tower and some stalls selling foods and souvenir. You may buy some good quality of tshirts here for about RM15 after converted.

Beaches

There are few beautiful beaches located in Pulau Weh such as Gapang, Iboih, Sumur Tiga and many more. These three are among the famous beaches in Weh. A lot of accommodations and restaurants are available at these areas.

Volcano

There was one volcano in Weh, but I didn't know the name. This volcano was still active but never erupted after so many years. It took about 30 minutes to reach the volcano from Pak Tua's place.

 Sabang

Naza had brought us touring this island and the view was simply amazing. Up and down the hill using automatic scooter was also a challenge to us. We ended up our tour at a small restaurant serving mixed rice in Sabang. I guess that was the best meal in Sabang because the other were not that good.

~The End~
