Surabaya
As mentioned earlier, Surabaya
is the second largest city in Indonesia after Jakarta. But that is not
the main focus here. We were back to Surabaya city from Madakaripura
Waterfall and it was all about food hunting.
Silence
is golden. That was the only thing that Mbk Tika mentioned to us once
we reached Surabaya. I know it was regarding our stay for that night,
but she refused to say anything. Without many questions, we just
followed her to a place called BKKBN. I was not a hotel but a rest
house.
The first dinner at Surabaya was at Gubeng Pojok.
Ain’s cousin who studied there had joined us for dinner. It was heavily
raining, so it was not possible for us to eat at the road site stalls.
We went to Gubeng Pojok to have Nasi Ayam Penyet and Pecel Lele. Please
don’t ask me about the location and ho to get there. I totally had no
idea about it.
On the next morning, we had breakfast at Soto Madura (I think that is the correct name) to have Soto Campur (Mixed Soto). It was mixed with soup, rice, beef, and other internal organs. The taste? Marvelous!
As
usual, buying fridge magnet from each and ever places I had visited was
a must. It was a souvenir shop that Mbk Tika took us. The magnets were
not really attractive, but I still bought two to satisfy my needs.
To spend our time before we could we have lunch , we went to a recreational park Klenteng Kwan Im Po Sat. It is actually a place of worship Buddhism where there is an interesting architecture to be seen. The park was once very famous and was always crowded . However, due to the passage of time, it was no longer an attraction to the local population but religious activities . This could be seen when the place is no longer maintained.
Bebek
Finished
with photo session, we proceed to Madura which took about half an hour.
The main purpose was BEBEK! Bebek or duck was one of the famous dish in
Indonesia. I have never tried it and was excited to have it for lunch.
Madura and Surabaya separated by oceans. To go to Madura, we need to cross the bridge called Jambatan Suramadu with toll fee of IDR30, 000. I think it was a bit exoensive. However, the journey was very interesting . On the left and right of the road side, we could see hectares of green paddy field. I really enjoyed such a refreshing view along the journey.

Bebek Sinjay Madura.
This place was famous for its Nasi Bebek. The restaurant was very large
and had always full with the customers. Most of them were not local
Madura. It was located on the side of the road and and facing the paddy
field. We ordered Nasi Bebek and The Botol. Nasi Bebek was just white
rice, fried duck, mango sambal and a little salad (ulam). It was very
tasty though a bit spicy.
After we enjoy lunch, we continued our journey back to Surabaya. This time we took a ferry to the other side of the ocean.
If
by car, the charge is IDR40, 000 per car while IDR15, 000 for regular
passengers. This ferry had two decks, the lower deck for vehicles and
the upper deck for passengers. It took 20 minutes to arrive in Surabaya.
From the ferry, we were able to see the monuments Indonesian Navy commander called Jalesveva Jayamahe Monument.

Jalesveva
Jayamahe, one of the biggest statues in Indonesia is located in the
naval base in north Surabaya. It is a Navy officer’s statue standing at
30.6 metres high with an additional 30 metre high building underneath
it. Jalesveva Jayamahe, which means ‘in the seas, we are victorious’, is
the motto of Indonesia’s navy.
Finally it's time to go back to Malaysia. We went straight to Djuangda International Airport, Surabaya boarding at 6:45 pm. We arrived at the airport early and still had time to enjoy the last meal.
There was a restaurant at the airport of Surabaya Café. I want to try another Indonesian menu called Sup Buntut. It is served either fried or soup.
I
think it wal bull’s hips but I was not really sure. It was served with
potato soup and white rice. I chose the avocado juice as a beverage. It
was definitely good.
We
were back to Malaysia with a satisfied feeling. Although it was a short
trip, but it was quite interesting and worthwhile for me. Thank you to
my friends, MBK Tika and Ain for being my travel partner this time.
Till Then.
