Our Very Own Penang

Our Very Own Penang
December 21, 2014|Adiek Sarah

I have been to Penang for many times. Normally it's for working purpose and there were few for leisure trips. This time around I am about to explore what I have missed from the previous trips.

I purchased AirAsia flight ticket to Penang from LCCT and the departure time as early as 7.10 am on 21st of Dec 2013. There were funny stories happened before I managed to get to the flight. My brother supposed to send me to the airport on that morning.  I know he's going out and not coming back home on that night, but I told him to send me before 5.30 am. I woke up early morning and do some final touch for my packing while waiting for him. It's almost 5.30 am he still didn't show up. I tried to call his hand phone, but there was no ringing. I already panicked and I had decided to drive to the airport on my own.

Unfortunately I couldn't find the keys and I'm locked from the inside. I started to cry when I couldn't find the back door's key as well. After sometime, my brother called me and said that he might not be able to reach on time. He told me where the key is and I quickly drove my car once I found it.

He said he will take back my car at the airport. The spare key is at home, but he came directly from Putrajaya and I had no choice to leave the key under the tyre once I managed to park nearby the departure hall. He reached there 5 minutes later and successful drove back my car. Such a lovely little brother. Huh!

Not only that, it was already 6.30 am and I still couldn't get through the xray line before reaching the departure hall. The queue was too long, but then I reached the gate at 7.00 am. It was already close, but they still let me go. I ran to catch the flight with heavy backpack behind me, but I wrongly enter the flight gate. I had to go out from there and ran again to reach the correct gate. I finally get into the flight and sweating all over my body. Again, fuh!

And here the trip begins.

Penang National Park

My good friend, Ijat fetch me at the airport and took me for breakfast. We went to Taman Tun Sardon, a market at a housing area to get the best egg crab sandwich I have ever had. After that, we directly went to the National Park and she as a Penang local had never been there too.

It is located at the end of the island.  Penang National Park may be different from other National Park in Malaysia because it is a forest area and surrounded by beautiful beaches. The entrance is free but we have to pay RM5 to go to the canopy walkway.

The park is not big but it was tiring since it's already afternoon. But it's a very cozy and pleasant place to visit. They have proper footpath to the canopy walkway and to the beaches as well. It is suitable for camping and picnic activities.

Real Painting Georgetown

Done with National Park, we move back to the town to look for  new attractions in Penang, real paintings and steel arc. Prior to that, we had our rest and lunch at Miami Beach, Batu Feringghi. We ordered Laksa Penang (not very nice, maybe the owner has changed), ABC, coconut drink and Rojak Petis.

The mural was painted around Georgetown Heritage area. It has been painted by Ernest Zacharevic, a young Lithuania-born artist who is "making a scene" on the streets of George Town, Penang. This comes in the form of beautifully executed wall paintings, or murals, at selected streets in the inner city. The project, known as Mirrors George Town, is part of George Town Festival 2012.

We had to search for the paintings because it is scattered in many places, but it was only walking distance from one to another. There are few murals at Lebuh Armenian, Lebuh Ah Quee, but I couldn't remember the exact location of the steel arc. It's pretty interesting and a lot of people went there to take photos.

My family was in Penang too. My mother and 3 little sisters were there for a wedding and we meet up at Padang Kota to have the Pasembor. We didn't stay together because I will overnight at Ijat's house.

We ended our trip today by watching new movie, The Hobbit 2 at the First Avenue Mall. It was a cool movie, but again there will be another sequel. We went back to Ijat's place and get some rest because she has to work on the next day.
