LIMA '13 - 29-30 March 2013
Flying with Air Asia has now become my new addiction. Until March 2013, this is the third time I flew with Air Asia for this year. Owh please..this is not a promotional page. This time I visited Langkawi Island again. A very legendary favorite island of mine. This time it is purposely for LIMA '13.
LIMA is an abbreviation for Langkawi International Maritime & Aerospace Exhibition. The idea of organizing such a big event like this was brought by former Malaysia Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad. This is my second visit to LIMA, previously I went here on 2011.
I am proudly to say that this is a solo backpacking trip. Yes, I was traveling alone all by myself. Initially, I was supposed to come with my friend but she had to cancel it due to duty call. Well, that will be okay for me. I bought the air ticket during Air Asia sales last year. I managed to get only RM88 for return tickets from KL to Langkawi. Pretty cheap right? I should not missed this opportunity and just grab the tickets after I reconfirmed the date of LIMA with my friend who worked with LIMA's organizer.
Considering of school holiday season and LIMA as a big event, I knew that the hotels at Langkawi will be fully booked. Thus, I booked as early as 1st January 2013 at Grand Beach Motel Langkawi. They have the cheapest room that I can ever found, RM50 per night for family fan room. I don't mind staying at simple room, as long as I can sleep, get shower and perform solat, that will be enough for me. This chalet is located exactly in front of Chenang Beach.
My entry today will be a bit different from my other entries. Traveling as a solo backpacker is not hard, but I guess I would have some tips to share. Please don't laugh at me after you read it. This is all based from my experience during this visit.
Simple tips:
#1 : When you are traveling to somewhere (solo or with friends) and you know you have local friends there, never ever expect them to entertain you even though they are not working on that day
#2 : Once you know that your friend could not entertain you or help you with transportation or anything, you must always have a back up plan
#3 : If you have no back up plan, please bring together your work or at least a novel to read
#4 : Never ever travel at the end of the month or when your salary is not yet in ;)
#5 : Always take care of your belongings no matter how small it is (I already lost my newly camera)
Okay, back to my stories. The first day was terrible and it was extremely boring.Tips #1-3 tells what was really happened to me and how my day became boring. I do nothing except staying in the room. Only in the morning I walked along the beach, went sea bathing, and then looked for some breakfast. In the evening, I went for dinner at Aliah Seafood, and again, walked along the beach.
My flight back to KL scheduled on 8.50 pm. I have plenty of time but nothing much to do while waiting for the flight. The next morning I went for a walk at the beach again before I checked out around 11.00 am. I took a cab to the airport and luckily they have luggage storage so that I was able to store my bags. LIMA was held at Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre (MIEC) which was located next to the Langkawi International Airport. So I just walked to the next building.
I spent about 4 hours watching the acrobatic air show and also the exhibition for traders. This event was held for four days; 2 days for traders and another 2 days opened for public. I went back to the airport around 4.00 pm, had some lunch (late lunch actually), and have a drink at Starbucks (where I'm writing this entry now) while waiting for the flight.
It was my unlucky day when I lost my camera. I never realized that the camera was no longer with me. Too bad, it was my newly camera. However, I still have some picture which took using my hand phone but with very low resolution. Before enjoying some pictures during the visit, here are some information about Langkawi. I hope it will be useful for my silent readers.
Some Information:
1. Malaysia organized LIMA every year as Langkawi international annual event. Previously they organized it on end of the year but only this year they changed the trend
2. Taxi fare from airport to Cenang Beach is RM18 (flat rate) - the taxi drivers are very friendly and really helpful. They said no bad guys at Langkawi, I hope so..
3. There is a luggage storage counter and you can store your luggage starting from RM10 (daily rate) for locker. The rate differs from the size of the luggage but with very reasonable price. It closed at 9.00 pm
Enjoy the photos. Till then~
