My partner in crime, Zack and I were planning for this trip about a year ago. We bought return AirAsia ticket for only RM100 during the sale and started to look for suitable package for our activity. We decided to take travel agent for the White Water Rafting at Sg Padas on the first day and followed by Mount Kinabalu climbing.
We depart from Kuala Lumpur on 21st Feb 2013 at 7.40 pm and arrived there about 10.10 pm. We already booked a room at Borneo Global Backpackers (BGB) KK but unfortunately there was no airport pickup. So, we had to take airport taxi with RM30 fare. Taxi in Kota Kinabalu is not using meter, but using flat rate. Our room in BGB was only RM58 for twin sharing bed and sharing bathroom. It was simple but very clean hostel. The facilities like wifi, iron, hot water etc were located outside the room at the common area.

Once we checked in at BGB, the receptionist just informed us that our rafting had been cancelled due to train problem. We were so disappointed because they did not inform us earlier and we had no back up plan for the next day. But a part from that, we already saved RM230 for the WWR trip.
We were lucky to have local friend at KK. Abg Usop, called me the next morning asking if we already at Beufort. After I mentioned that the trip was cancelled, we were then went out for breakfast with him at Kak Nong Restaurant, not far from our hostel.

We were then taken to a site visit (that what he mention to his boss) to Rumah Terbalik (Upside Down House) at Tamparuli. It is about 20 minutes away from KK. The entrance free is only RM10 per person and thanks to Abg Usop for paying it. Ngeee~

We were only allowed to take pictures from the outside of the house. Once you enter the house, picture taking is no longer allowed. This is actually to maintain the exclusivity and the excitement to attract tourist to come. RM100 will be fined for each photo taken inside the house. It was a complete house with furniture and rooms. It was so interesting to see everything inside the house were upside down. End of the session, we bought a fridge magnet as souvenir and then drove back to KK.

Give me the keys..I want to drive |
It was Friday and Abg Usop had to leave for Friday Prayer. He dropped us at Philippine's Market at KK city centre.

Philippine's Market at day time |
The reason why they call it Philippine's Market is because most of the sellers are from Philippines. There are two parts of market. One is selling souvenirs and another one is selling foods like Sabah traditional food to bring back to KL.

I did not buy anything here |
I bought my favourite Kuih Cincin and Amplang for my family and friend. I spent RM45 for all of it and then the seller gave us small package of Kuih Cincin for free. So nice of her.

We also went to KK Centre Point. It is a shopping mall located exactly at the KK heart. Of course, if you are comparing with KL's mall there was a huge different. We were looking for few things to bring to Mount Kinabalu as our last preparation. Not to forget, we had tried the famous Milky Tea in Sabah, YOYO. It was recommended by my friend during my previous visit to KK but I never had a chance to try it. So, this time I managed to try the Pearl Milky Tea while Zack tried the Pearl Chocolate with Fresh Milk. The taste was wonderful (better than Chatime) and the price was only RM3.80. Zack alos managed to find a snow cap and we did find additional medication for the climb on the next day. We were then return to the hostel and had a rest. Taxi fare from KK city to our place was RM15 and it is a flat rate.

Nothing much to do at room other than finalizing our packing for the climb and had some sleep. It was raining heavily at the evening and I already start starving. We decided to go to the Night Market at Philippine's Market again to have some seafood dinner. You can imagine how actually the situation during raining day at night market but we didn't really bother about that.

Our dinner |
We stopped at one stall and ordered a lobster (RM18 for every 100g), a squid, vegetables, and also some chicken wings and vegetable murtabak from the next stall. Total cost for our dinner was RM79 for 2. I do not know to say whether or not it's worth it but the lobster actually cost us a lot. Other dishes's price seems very normal to me.
After that we returned to the hostel to have some rest again and get ready for another excitement tomorrow.
~End of Day 1~
