Kota Kinabalu Trip (21-25 Feb 2013) : Day 2 and 3 - Mount Kinabalu Climb Part II

Image
Going down from the mountain was even tougher. However, at least the time taken was faster than going up. The walking stick and knee guards were really helpful. I got less pain when wearing the knee guard, I guess. We were not really taking pictures because it was raining all day long. We started to go down from Waras Hut at 10.00 am and managed to reach Kinabalu Park around 2.15 pm. We stopped only for a while at every shelters and did not stop at all at final 2 shelters.  I still can smile..hehe Mempening Shelter It was so great to hear the sound of waterfall and we knew that we were reaching the Timpohon Gate. After passing by the Carson Waterfall, there was another disaster when we have to climb last stairs to reach Timpohon Gate. Our leg could accept any more pressures. We were forcing ourselves and yes, we finally did it! Breezy Kinabalu Park It was very sad to say goodbye to all the climbers. We didn't really asked for their name but all of them are very frie...

Kota Kinabalu Trip (21-25 Feb 2013) : Day 2 and 3 - Mount Kinabalu Climb Part I

With Name of Allah, we depart from BGB to Kinabalu Park at 7.00 am. It took about 1 hour and 45 minutes and we reach there around 9.00 am. It was very breezy and cold. I don't know how Zack can stand without any jacket. Kinabalu Park  We have around 15 minutes to settle everything before we were heading to Timpohon gate. We've met our lady mountain guide, Yeta and she gave us the rental jacket (RM20), glove (RM10) and walking stick (RM15) to each of us. We also receive our climbing permit from the Kinabalu Park. The Tag is the permit Ok, let me brief about the trail. Mount Kinabalu has two trails, one is from Timpohon Gate and another one is from Mersilau gate. The distance from Timpohan Gate (our starting point) to Laban Rata (HQ) is about 6km while from Mersilau Gate is additional 2km. We need to take taxi which is provided by the Kinabalu Park to both gates. There are 7 shelters located along the trail from Timpohon Gate to Laban Rata. Each and every shelters wer...

Kota Kinabalu Trip (21-25 Feb 2013) : Day 1

Image
My partner in crime, Zack and I were planning for this trip about a year ago. We bought return AirAsia ticket for only RM100 during the sale and started to look for suitable package for our activity. We decided to take travel agent for the White Water Rafting at Sg Padas on the first day and followed by Mount Kinabalu climbing. We depart from Kuala Lumpur on 21st Feb 2013 at 7.40 pm and arrived there about 10.10 pm. We already booked a room at Borneo Global Backpackers (BGB) KK but unfortunately there was no airport pickup. So, we had to take airport taxi with RM30 fare. Taxi in Kota Kinabalu is not using meter, but using flat rate. Our room in BGB was only RM58 for twin sharing bed and sharing bathroom. It was simple but very clean hostel. The facilities like wifi, iron, hot water etc were located outside the room at the common area. Borneo Global Backpackers (BGB) Once we checked in at BGB, the receptionist just informed us that our rafting had been cancelled due to train pr...

Mission to Conquer Mount Kinabalu :: Training and Preparation

Image
Actually it has never crossed in my mind climb any mountain at all because I know I'm not a climber or hiker. But finally, the idea to conquer Mount Kinabalu, Sabah suddenly came out. It started when me and my partner in crime, Zack purchased airline tickets to Kota Kinabalu during AirAsia sale. Return ticket from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Kinabalu at that time was only RM100. The first preparation I did was to buy hiking shoes. I bought Adidas shoes cost about RM132 after 50% discount (the real price was in Indonesian Rupiah) during my visit to Bali, Indonesia in September last year. Our training started quite late which is about 2 months before the date to go to KK. My First training began at Broga Hill, Semenyih on January 12, 2013. That time I was accompanied by my little brother, Ami. Well, first training always tiring and my brother just laugh at me because he did not sweat at all. Broga Hill's trail is not so challenging, but it has total of 5 summits. It took us less th...

CNY @ Universal Studio Singapore :: 11 Feb 2013

Chinese New Year kali aku turun lagi ke Singapore. Kali ini hanya day trip je. So ada la duit kecik. Lepas tu ...
